MEENA OLSON/ MRS. OSCAR HERMAN JOHNSON  [b. 1871/1872,  d. Sept 1895, mar. 1894]
Seeking information on Meena Olson. In 1894 Meena, age, 23 married Johnson, 46, a Wabaunsee County farmer and cattle grower who lived in St. Marys, KS. Johnson immigrated via Rock Island, IL, in 1868-69 from Ekesjo, Sweden, with his widowed mother, a brother, and two married sisters (Tulien and Johnson). Johnson was among founding members of the Swedish Lutheran (First Evangelical) Church in St. Marys.  Meena was born around 1872 in Topeka to Peter and Nellie Olson. She died in Topeka in 1895 and is buried in either Wabaunsee or Pottawatomie County.

[Additonal sources: 1880 census. I have looked for a death certificate and marriage record in the KSHS holdings and Swedish Church ledgers from St. Mary's. Found minimal documentation of Topeka deaths during th e1890s' possibly, there is a record withing the county where she is buried. Johnson died in 1913; his obit and a small newspaper notice of Meena's death appeared in the St. Marys newspapers.  After Mena's death, her younger sister , Segra, b. May 1877,  was keeping house for Johnson and two hired men on his Wabaunsee County farm in 1900.  (query updated 09/26/2012)

CARL AUGUST SWENSON/ SWENSSON/ SWINSON/ SWINSSON
In 1888, Carl August Swenson immigrated from Hvetlanda, Sweden with his parents (Daniel and Eva Lisa) and an older brother and sister (Emil and Christina).  Carl August was born 14 August 1870, and died 21 February 1894.  Swensons settled on a farm in Wabaunsee County and remained until about 1915, when the two older children moved to Iowa.  They returned to Topeka and had a house on Filmore Street.  (Daniel died in 1901; Eva in 1899)

[I would like to find a death notice or certificate for Carl August - or an additional record of his brief life and premature death.  If he married, there may be a record.  Other than naturalization records, I have not searched the available documents. ]

Note:  Variations in Swedish spellings add a second "s" and names can appear as either "son" or "sen."
