Once a home for the down and out, the old Shawnee County Poor Farm has been transformed into an active community center.  But,  hints of its rich and fascinating history still abound.  Susan Fowler-Hentzler, Director of the Shawnee North Community Center has researched the history of the facility, and will share some of its secrets.

Church records can sometimes be invaluable in filling in gaps where other vital records don't exist, as well as providing rich context and detail about the lives of our ancestors.  But, finding the church records pertaining to your family can be challenging.  This class will explore the types of records typically kept by various religious denominations, and provide tips for locating historic church records.

Most of us, unless we are 100% Native American,  descend from immigrant ancestors.  Finding records of their immigration to America, and their subsequent naturalization can be a daunting task.  Janice Schulz, Director of the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, MO, will share with us her tips for locating the immigration and naturalization records of our ancestors.
