Special Interest Groups
Our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) gather to learn and share about a particular area of genealogy-related interest. Less formal than a structured class or workshop, they may include presentations during some meetings, but always include time for questions, answers and sharing of information among and between group members.
We currently offer Special Interest Groups in the following areas:
PAF- Ancestral Quest Computer Genealogy Group: Members of this group use the old PAF (Personal Ancestral File) program as well as the replacement Ancestral Quest. Some use online programs such as those offered by Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. Discussions include questions about program capabilities, brick walls, and what's new in the family history collection world. We welcome anyone who uses a computer program to organize their genealogy interests. We welcome anyone who uses a computer program to organize their genealogy interests.
The group is facilitated by Eileen Davis and RIchard Kleinschmidt. See the Events Calendar for meeting dates and locations.
Family Tree Maker (FTM) and Computer Genealogy: This group will discuss tips and tricks for using the popular Family Tree Maker software application, and other more general computing issues related to genealogy research. The group will be facilitated by Rich McReynolds and Jan Droge. See the Events Calendar for meeting dates and locations.
Brick Wall Group: This group meets monthly to help each other knock down the brick walls that are blocking their family history research. The group is facilitated by Marty Flanagan. See the Events Calendar for meeting dates and locations.
DNA/ Genetic Genealogy: This group meets monthly to explore how DNA can help in your genealogical research.
Learn how to utilize DNA testing as part of your genealogy research toolkit. Come to learn, get your questions answered, and share your DNA testing experiences with others. Come if you have had your DNA tested, and are not sure what to do with the results. This group includes the former Beginner and Intermediate DNA SIGs. The group is facilitated by Marty Flanagan. See the Events Calendar for meeting dates.
Open to the members of the public, if they have completed DNA testing.
All TGS Special Interest Groups are free, and open to the public.
