Call for Presenters
September 12, 2019--
The Topeka Genealogical Society is excited to announce their upcoming conference to be held in Topeka, Kansas April 3-4, 2020 at The Capital Plaza Hotel/Maner Conference Center, 1717 SW Topeka Blvd.
Although TGS has sponsored Annual Conferences for nearly 50 years, 2020 will be the inaugural year for the newly-branded Heartland Family History Conference. This event will have an expanded 2-day format and substantially larger venue space and options, 20+ breakout sessions, and will target a larger regional audience. Our aim is to offer a culturally-diverse program that provides varied learning opportunities and inspiration for all levels of genealogy experience, drawing participation from across our Central Plains region.
We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic presenters. If you are passionate about your area of expertise and would like to share your love and knowledge with fellow genealogists and family historians, we would be pleased to hear from you and welcome your submission for presentations!
Our conference theme for this year, “Passport to the Past: Discovering Our Diverse Ancestries”. With that in mind, areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:
- Ethnic/Racial/Religious Settlements in the Midwest (German, Swedish, Italian, Czech, Hispanic, African American)
- Technology: Tools to improve genealogical research
- Preserving and Organizing Photos and Newspaper Clippings
- Oral History/Storytelling/Writing
- Civil War, WWI, WWII in the Midwest
- DNA /Genetic Genealogy
- Migration, Trails and Maps
- Overseas Research
- Any Other Topics you feel are pertinent
Note: Due to wi-fi limitations at the Conference venue, any presentations which describe, display or utilize internet-based resources should include static screen shots and not be dependent upon real-time access to an internet connection at the time of the presentation. Live internet connections will not be available to presenters.
Presentation proposals may be submitted by using our online form . Prospective speakers may submit up to four proposals.
(To see the information that will be needed for proposals, submitters may wish to download this printable version of the submission form. Note: all proposals must be submitted through the online form. No paper entries will be accepted.)
Presentations should be 60 minutes in length. This would include any questions and answer periods.
The submission deadline for proposals is October 15, 2019.
Each submission will be reviewed and evaluated. We anticipate that selection decisions will be made and submitting presenters will be notified by December 1, 2019. Selected presenters will receive an email of acceptance to the conference as a presenter, as well as a form requesting additional information about your presentation and yourself.
Complimentary conference registration (including lunch) for the day on which the presentation is scheduled and a digital version of the Conference Syllabus.
