Our Library Has Closed

We are sorry to announce that, due to low utilization and unsustainably high operating costs, we have made the difficult decision to close down our library effective October 31, 2024. We are currently in the process of identifying new homes for the contents of our library collection. We are leaving this page and our library catalog online, so that if you had questions about an item that we had in our collection, we will be able to tell you where it has been transferred to.

In addition to the genealogical resources available at the Kansas Historical Society’s Archives and the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, we maintain an independent genealogical library with an impressive array of source materials. Our library collection includes more than 11,000 items, including materials from every U.S. state, and some international materials. In addition, there are numerous “how-to” books, family histories, maps, original Shawnee County Naturalization, Probate books and marriage license applications (1860s – 1920s) from the Shawnee County Courthouse, and a unique collection of more than 800 volumes from the Columbian Title Abstract Company in Topeka. We have a strong collection of genealogical periodicals, that includes more than 700 publication titles.
